By promoting eco-friendly attitudes and activities among staff, clients and suppliers you will ensure that your own efforts in this field will be supported by them and will be long-term. Moreover, when eco-friendly attitudes and activities will be deeply rooted among staff, clients and suppliers they will transfer them to everyday life, which is also very important, because in environment protection the final result depends on cooperation and complexity of actions.<\/p>\n<p>Eco-friendly attitudes could be promoted among the staff of an establishment by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>special training courses for the staff on environmentally friendly conduct at hotels\/restaurants and in everyday life (e.g. eco-friendly cleaning techniques), training in illness prevention, health and safety at work, ensuring appropriate, healthy working conditions;<\/li>\n<li>sending e-mails to staff with information how to be more eco-friendly at work and in everyday life;<\/li>\n<li>encouraging staff to get involved together with their families into actions\/events that promote ecology, such as annual Clean up the Earth initiative or planting trees and flowers;<\/li>\n<li>competition for the most eco-employee of the month\/year;<\/li>\n<li>granting the staff mugs with their names and eco-shopping bags to encourage them to use reusable products;<\/li>\n<li>encouraging staff to use public transport, bikes and to walk to and from work. Those who live far from work can be encouraged to use Carpooling (joint travels with colleagues from work, spouse\/partner, and neighbour) or Carsharing (when some people share the same car). They may be proposed to travel from the suburbs to the first public transport stop in the city, park the car and take a bus or a tram.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When promoting environmentally friendly attitudes among guests we should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>inform them about what is done at the establishment to protect the environment and why;<\/li>\n<li>promote balanced diet, ecological seasonal menu, which allows using local products for cooking;<\/li>\n<li>introduce hotel animation programme that in a nice and simple way teaches eco-principles and principles of sustainable development to the youngest guests;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Besides, all the staff should turn guests\u2019 attention to which type of conduct is desired and which is not with regard to the environment.<\/p>\n<p>When promoting eco-friendly attitudes among hotel\/restaurant suppliers the following can be done:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>environment-friendly purchases (e.g. using products with Ecolabel and Fair Trade certificate);<\/li>\n<li>purchasing and promoting local products;<\/li>\n<li>purchasing environment-friendly\/organic food;<\/li>\n<li>eliminating endangered species from the menu.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A hotel\/restaurant may have its own garden with eco-food or an apiary (if there is no space available, a garden or an apiary may be placed on the roof which will additionally insulate it).<\/p>\n<p>A hotel or a restaurant may support local projects in environmental protection or environmental organisations by collaborating with them, supporting them with its logo, informing the staff, suppliers and guests about these.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In order to make hotel\/ restaurant efforts in environmental protection significant, you should ensure that they would not be only temporary.
